A few months ago, I have asked Talk About Autism‘s and my Twitter followers what the best things about being a parent of children with Autism are. Here are their responses:
(Note that I’ve blurred their Twitter carriers for anonymity)
These responses made me smile and appreciate the bright side of Autism. These parents help reinforce the idea that having Autism is not a bad thing. They helped me further understand that Autism is just a small part of each of their children, and that it is important to look at the whole person all the time.
Can you add any more positives?
Those are wonderful responses. I’d add that my son sees the world in a way that no one else does, a beautiful world, one that I’ve been able to see through him. Also, he doesn’t fall into peer pressure, but instead makes up his own mind. He is who he is, not who anyone else wants him to be.
That’s a gorgeous response! It seems like a lot of people (including me) could learn a lot from your son!!
