Never Miss a Chance to Make Someone Happy

Today’s Prompt: It turns out that your neighbor on the plane/bus/train (or the person sitting at the next table at the coffee shop) is a very, very chatty tourist. Do you try to switch seats, go for a non-committal brief small talk, or make this person your new best friend?

There is a chance that some of the people that I meet everyday is carrying a burden, a problem, a disappointment, or merely having  a bad day. Why would I refuse them the chance to off-load?

I will feel honoured if anyone talks to me randomly on the bus, plane, train or coffee shop. Regardless of what they want to talk about, I will listen intently. They may talk about their lives, their families, their holidays, or possible that horrible boss that they have. It doesn’t matter. I will listen.

On the flip side, I could be the one who is in a foul mood. A conversation with a person who I do not know and would probably not see again could actually help lower my blood pressure and restore my calmness. Wouldn’t that be nice?

BUT…

It is also possible that they do not have the same beliefs and ideologies as I do, but heck, I am open to an intellectual debate. I know I will learn something from them, and they will learn something from me.

What about those ones who are close-minded, rude, or inappropriate? I will still talk to them. After all……discrimination and prejudice is learned.

An extension of myself and the reason for my existence

Today’s PromptAmong the people you’ve known for a long time, who is the person who’s changed the most over the years? Was the change for the better?

My lifetime Valentine

Almost a decade ago, I have met the most beautiful, engaging, challenging, intellectually stimulating, yet slightly childish woman and my life has never been the same. We were teens when we met. Both childish, yet full of drive and ambition. We laughed, ate, cried, struggled, then succeeded. Our secret? Love, understanding and best of all, mature and sensitive communication. Nothing is left unsaid but nothing is left unresolved. Neither of us are perfect and we both know it. Still, we manage to make one another better.

My partner is my rock. She is always the one who gives me advice, listens without judging, and the one who can comfort me. Knowing that she will always be right beside me makes everything easier. Waking up in the morning and seeing her face makes me realise that everything is alright. Looking at her before I go to sleep assures me that I am loved and wanted. Having the privilege of making her smile and loving her for the rest our lives has been the best  gift the universe has ever given me.

She has, and continues to, make me a better person.

Thanksfor the prompt, DP!

An All-You-Can-Eat-For-Free Restaurant

Today’s Daily PromptYou just inherited a dilapidated, crumbling-down grand mansion in the countryside. Assuming money is no issue, what do you do with it?

Imagine a restaurant exclusive to people who cannot afford to eat. A place where gourmet food is served for free. Not just a soup kitchen – money is not an issue, remember? This is what I want to do with a run-down grand mansion. Food will be cooked by trained and well-mannered chefs, who, along with the servers, in turn will train those who have no jobs.

There may be a shortage in money in the world, but I do not think that there is a shortage of good, well-meaning people who are willing to help the less fortunate.

Barbecues (barbeques) and Flowers

Today’s Daily Prompt: Smores, salty ocean breezes, veggie burgers on the grill, sweaty people on the bus – what’s the smell that you associate the most with summer?

To me, nothing is more symbolizes summer more than the smell of food being cooked on grills outdoors. I know it’s the summer when I can smell barbecued food everywhere I go. The British (especially us in the North West) get very excited when there is a little bit of sunshine. People purchase big and new barbecue grills if there is at least 15% chance that the sun will show up  on a weekend. TV programmes will be interrupted by B&Q advertisements (commercials) that boasts half-priced barbecue grills.

Another personal favourite of mine is the smell of flowers. Their smell makes my morning and afternoon walks very very pleasant.

Groundhog Week – Weather, family, fun!

Today’s Daily Prompt: If you could relive last week, would you? Would you change anything?

We had an amazing week last week, weather-wise, here in England. As I have said before, sunshine and warmth rarely grace Manchester. Therefore, I am really grateful to have experienced a full week of sunshine last week, and if I will be allowed to relive last week, I would do so mostly because of the weather. In addition to not having to take an umbrella everywhere, people are generally happier when the sun is out.

I also had the pleasure of being with my whole family last weekend. We spent some time away in Lake District, Cumbria. We swam, ran, walked and talked all weekend. We also ate together – a very pleasant and therapeutic time for all of us. It is amazing how we all cherrished the time we had together as times such as this do not often happen due to our busy schedules and geographical locations.

All in all, I do want to relive last week and I do not want to change a thing. However, if reliving last week would mean that I would lose the next seven days, I would refuse the opportunity. I would rather experience exciting things in the future, armed with the hope that there are even brighter things ahead than relive the past.
